We have reached the second to last week and I think the only thing I have to say about that is...where did the time go?
It feels like just last week I was getting ready for the first day. Ready for a new experience and an entire summer to learn and get better. Now that the end is approaching and it's almost time to wrap things up, I think it's important to take this time to evaluate the experience.
If there's anything you never got around to trying or something you planned on learning, I would make it a priority to attempt to do so while you still can. This also goes for making connections in the newsroom. If there's a person you thought you would get to work with but never did or someone who wrote a story you really liked and you want to talk about it, send them an email or a message and try to connect.
While having an internship is mostly about what you do during it, the way you apply what you learned to the after matters just as much. Taking in everything from the past couple months will help you plan for what's next and guide where you want your path to lead you. Even if you are unsure about next steps, reflecting can aid you in thinking about how you want to brand yourself as a job candidate and all of the things you can add to your resume because of the internship!
You want to look back on the experience and know you did everything you set out to. Even if there are some things that weren't able to be done or time got away from you, looking back at all you have accomplished and how much you've grown is a necessary thing to do. Interning is a very transformative experience and you should pat yourself on the back for giving it your best shot. Recognize that being in the position to accept an internship offer meant that you were already doing the right thing to shape the future you want. That is no small feat and you deserve to be proud!
